Job Description

For Shropshire Council we are currently looking for an experienced Highways Developement Control Officer to start asap. This role is for an initial 2 years but likely to be extended depending on the performance of the post holder.

The role is to:

  • Review and respond to development sites and plans on behalf of the Council and supporting HDC and Planning Colleagues in delivering on Development Management to support the councils growth agenda.
  • Provide information, data and progress reports to HDC / Planning and the wider council as required
  • To lead and/or contribute to a range of projects and build relations with both internal and external partners
  • To undertake detailed technical assessment of development related highway works proposed for agreements under S38, S278 S106 of the Highways Act 1980 
  • Proactively encourage, instigate and participate in pre-application discussions with develops
  • Provide professional advice and explain the potential impact of new developments and secure reasonable and appropriate improvements to mitigate impact on the network
  • To secure S106 contributions towards transport infrastructure improvements

Please apply if you have:

  • Experience in a similar role in the public sector
  • Good working knowledge of the Highways Act 1980
  • Experience in negotiating and agreeing legal agreements related to the highway impacts
  • The ability tndertake work within preset time scales to ensure that a programme of work is delivered within the optimal timescale
