Job Description

For our Dudley based client we are currently looking for a Senior School Improvement Officer.

The role is to:

  • challenge and support Local Authority (LA) maintained schools leading to improved education outcomes
  • monitor and evaluate the quality of school improvement activity, providing advice and support to Headteachers, staff, Governing Bodies, Council colleagues and Elected Members as appropriate
  • Lead the work of the School Improvement Alliance (SIA) to develop its capacity for brokerage and delivery of school to school support
  • Quality assure and report on the impact of the work of the SIA.
  • Liaise with relevant teams within the LA to deliver consistent provision for schools and in support of LA priorities.
  • Support the Lead for Education Outcomes in delivering a range of schools, directorate and corporate policies and initiatives.
  • Chair the strategic and operational groups of the SIA and report to the Director of People in relation to the impact of school improvement activity across the borough.
  • Ensure ways of working across all partners (LA and Academy sector) are transparent, effective and comply with agreed service standards, operating within available budgets and in line with necessary legislative and national requirements.
  • Provide line management for specific teams within the division, as defined by the Lead for Education Outcomes including the co-ordination and quality assurance of LA Improvement Advisers in identified schools.
  • To ensure that the work of partners including teaching schools and external consultants results in improvement in achievement for all pupils.
  • To support the development of new ways of working which build the capacity of schools to take charge of their own improvement.
  • To provide support for governors in developing their effectiveness.
  • To maintain appropriate and effective partnerships with other services to support school improvement.

  • are a qualified teacher (qualified to first degree level)
  • have relevant school leadership experience at a senior level
  • have experience of leading school improvement teams
  • have experience of teaching successfully across the ability range in either primary or secondary sectors
  • have experience of effective project management and action planning to raise standards
  • are experienced in working alongside teachers and other adults to improve their practice
  • have experience of observing and evaluating teaching and giving feedback
  • have experience in developing middle and senior leaders and governors
  • have experience of training adults (e.g. staff meetings) and supporting improvement
